Audience expectations-Latasha

For the audience expectations, I had filmed the video in two different ways as I wanted to see the experiment with the way that it looks and challenge the conventions of an 'traditional' interview 'style'. I also felt that by doing that I wanted to make the video have a 'homey' type feel to it. Rather than an stick to the traditional interview type look.

Preliminary Task Animatic-Latasha

The animatic from the preliminary Task is quite simple and more shots have been added to it. however when we first created the idea for our preliminary task, we had not made a storyboard or animatic. This was because we were running ti a schedule and did not have time to create a storyboard nor an animatic.

American Pyscho Poster Analysis-Latasha

I chose to analyse the poster of American Psycho, as I have already analysed the first 9-frames of the films opening. The fact that Patrick(Christian Bale) is looking away from the knife in his hand immediately suggests a that he has an alter ego and that he is possibly not happy with his present life or alter ego.

Target Audience-Latasha

The target audience for our film, I think that would be 15-24 year olds. The film is based on a teenager and her struggle with her state of mind and other problems she has in her life. Most teenagers in today's society would be able to link with Sarah's life quite well. I also think that the film does not need to be aimed at any younger children because of the rating of our film. I think that most people would enjoy our film as it is quite mind-boggling and focuses more on how a person's state of mind and how it can lead them to situations that can't be changed or solved.  I think that it is easier when you are aiming at a younger audience because of increase in technology use as you can use viral campaigns and then make it more easier to increase the word of mouth and the 'buzz' of the film before its released.

Media Institution

Dark Castle Entertainment

  • Formed in 1999 by Joel Roberts, Robert Zemeckis & Gilbert Alder
  • Specialise in Horror films
  • Pays homage to William Castle,  a horror director in 1950s and 1960s
  • Main aim was to remake his film

Dark Castle Entertainment
The production company whose main idea is to produce horror films. They would be  good to help distribute our film. Although our film does not far under the horror genre, I think that they would be a good company to use as they specialise in films that can come quite close to the horror genre. Specifically because our film is a Psychological Thriller. Our film is aiming for a low-bugdet and I think it would be good as they could be able to focus more on the story rather than the effects. However, the effects will be focused on mainly when the masked figures appear and in scenes where the audience start to see thew deterioration of Sarah's mental sate of mind.

Twisted Pictures

  • Formed in 2002
  • Produce horror films
  • Gained critical acclaim through the Saw(franchise)

Twisted Pictures
This company again produce horror films. The most famous would be the Saw films. While most people would say that the films were horror based, I would argue that they can also be closely linked with the Psychological Thriller genre in the way that the characters have to figure out why they were put in the situations they wake up. Again, I think that this company would be good to use as they would be interested in they way that our film works and how it plays with the audiences' minds. Although they do produce high-budgeted films, I think that our film would interest them as they could possibly give us a bigger budget in where we would focus on effects a little more. However, I also feel that we do not need a big budget to attract well-known production and distribution companies.

Premlinary Task-Latasha

Here is the Preliminary task:

I was in a different group in my preliminary task. We chose to experiment with different shots whilst still following the 180 degree rule. We had trouble trying to get the think of different ways we could experiment with the shots whilst still keeping the task quite simple. We decided that by having a very simple script, it would be easier when focusing on the shots. this is because it gave us more time to focus on setting up the different shots and angles. We felt that we wanted to challenge the conventions of using the 180 degree rule. Although, we have clearly stuck to it, we have used different angles and eye-lines to  make a more effective way of the showing a conversation. An example would be during the using of the two-shot-profile as it is a good way of showing the the entire props, costume and the action that one of the actors is currently doing whilst still keeping to the 180 degree rule.

Film rating for our film

Our film would have a rating of 15 as it contains a dark theme. It focuses on  Sarah, the main character and her state of mind which lead to her disappearance. I think that the masked characters would probably scare children under 15 as they tend to appear out of nowhere. The fact that they are a pigmentation of her mind shows that we have to create a way of making them appear dark and mysterious. Also I think that it makes it harder for younger kids to understand what she's going through. Not that many teens do actually understand Sarah's situation. But I think that it they will relate in the way that Sarah feels, her loneliness and how she seems to handle her life. I think that 18 is too high a rating as the masked figures do not present any threat to anyone else but Sarah. They don't attack her in any way or harm any of her family. I think that she is a young teen who has a mental problem that she needs to overcome.

What I understand about Synergy

Synergy is a when different companies join together to create a way that helps to promote their film through different media sources. For example, the Harry Potter franchise has video games and the film which helped to promote the books. This meant that the books would help to promote the film. Which also helps to promote the other merchandise. This is also called Constant Media Synergy as it never stops.

Evaluation of Filming and Editing

Our picture is complete and we are now about to complete our sound edit. On our day of filming I think that the filming went very well. If our group keeps going at our current pace. We should be able to finish before the end of term, I have finished what I have uploaded a blog post with film industries logos. Also, I intend to add more information to them about how we could use their designs to make our logos more successful. Also, I have almost finished the Poster Analysis but I think that our group is on track to complete most of our construction and planning.

Film Industry Logos

Jerry Bruckheimer Films

This is the film logo for Jerry Bruckheimer films. Jerry Bruckheimer is very well known. He produces not only films but T.V programmes as well. He has produced films like Armageddon to Pirates Of The Caribbean. He also produces television programmes like CSI to Without A Trace. This logo is quite nice as it is something that could give an idea as to what films they produce etc.

Touchstone Pictures

This the logo for Touchstone pictures. They are very well known and distributed a great deal of films. For example, Pretty Woman, 10 Things I Hate About You and Sweet Home Alabama. The simplicity if this logo makes it easier to remember all though it makes it harder to remember the company name as the logo has nothing to do with the company name.

Warner Bros. Pictures

This is the logo for Warner Bros. Pictures. They are a very well known distribution company and are the owners of Disney. They have distributed films like Harry Potter to The Matrix. This company also handles T.V shows like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Tom and Jerry. As Warner Bro.s are a very well known, their logo is something that everyone will remember. the bright gold of the logo is useful as it immediately catches the eye of viewer/audience. This is a good way of increasing the company profile. It may sound strange but it means that people who want to distribute their film would be using a company who have been promoted through word of mouth.

A Band Apart

A Band Apart are a film company created by film director Quentin Tarantino. They have produced film like Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction and Inglorious B******s. Unfortunately the company closed won in 2006. Although they did produced Inglorious B******s in 2009. This logo is quite strange however it does give an idea again as to what type of films the company may produce/distribute. The use of the stencil on a Khaki background makes the name stand out more because of the fact that the font is a simple font.

Ideas of presenting evaluation

Originally, we had decided to create a Wix page in which we would present our research, planning and evaluation. After much deliberation, we have decided to present our research, planning and final task using Blogger, where we will use one page for each section.   This is because we felt that it is easier to use and less stressful when it comes to uploading videos and pictures etc. For some of the evaluation, we will have joined blog posts and for some of it we will add individual evaluations. For the main evaluation, we will have commentary over clips but for some of it, we will personally introduce ourselves and answer some of them questions. We also have a behind the scenes video that will be posted. As we are using a blog, it will be easier when it comes to writing our evaluations as well adding pictures/screenshots. We can also add clips of examples from films and add the 'public' point of view and what they thought about our film.  After watching another AS media groups evaluation videos, we felt that it would be more useful to use a range of different types of Media. This is because that we then have a range of ways that will help to give us a good grade.

Evaluation on editing

So far our editing I think has gone quite well. We have just finshed editing and we're about to put it into Garageband. There are a few minor problems that we need to change and add. But overall I think that we will be done within the next few weeks.
